Social Vandalism is a text-based public installation. It was designed to be a daily meditation, a practice in discipline. The intention was to install one piece a day for 365 consecutive days. Almost every piece is original writing with the exception a handful. The typewriter font is utilized to keep gender and genre neutral. They’re printed out to a size of 46” x 10.5” and wheat pasted onto public spaces. The words are my own. All of the pieces are left anonymous, to eliminate the author and highlight the message. In this I hope to touch the viewer in a way that makes it special to them, as if there’s a connection to themselves and the universe that is happening in that moment.

Ordinary Magic was created for Figment 2012. I made a fortune-telling box from reclaimed wood, Plexiglas and some mechanical parts from an old vending machine. The box was then filled with 1000 handmade capsules. Each capsule contained four objects and one of my “fortunes” inside, all five containing the same objects, but slightly different, making each one unique; The hope of each person receiving one that was specifically designed for them and delivered by fate. The project became the first in the series that would become ObserverObscura.
When I first started putting the work out in public, I wasn't sure what to expect. Opening up yourself for public judgement is a vulnerable position to be in. When I first saw the reaction to the words I was bothered, it was a blow to the ego, but as I pulled back and confronted that part of myself that was injured, I saw what was happening was an development, almost a growth, and certainly a discourse between the reader and the work.
Originally designed to be an ad takeover on the NYC Transit system. I was hoping to affect commuters that are often in "limbo" while traveling to their destination.
